How to schedule Linear issues in your calendar

Brenna
Marketing @Morgen

Integrate Linear with all your calendars to effortlessly start scheduling and blocking time to tackle issues assigned to you. Morgen's integration with Linear is designed to help you realistically plan and deliberately schedule focused work time for the issues that require your focus.

Import your Linear issues to Morgen for seamless planning and time blocking.

In this guide, we outline how to integrate Linear with Morgen, configure what information to import, and effectively time block Linear issues in your calendar.

How to connect Morgen and Linear

In your Morgen desktop app:

  • Open the task panel by clicking the check mark icon in the left rail
  • Click ... at the top of the task manager to open the task menu
  • Select Connect a task integration
Add new task integrations from the task menu.

This will open Morgen's integration widget. From there you can ‘Add account’ > select Linear.

Select Linear from the list of integrations.

You will be prompted to sign in to Linear and grant Morgen permission to access the workspaces you select.

You can then configure the integration by specifying which:

  • teams to add (max of 3)
  • issues to import to Morgen
  • information should be included
Choose which Linear teams to add and which issues and information to import.

You will then be directed back to Morgen.

If you want connect a second workspace, repeat the steps listed above.

Your Linear issues in Morgen

Now, in your Morgen task manager you will see a Linear tab. If you connect multiple Linear workspaces, note that each one is listed separately to keep your views clear and focused. You can toggle between workspaces at the top of the Linear tab.

To keep your views focused, toggle between workspaces.

We recommend you take a moment to tune the way your Linear issues are displayed.

In the task manager menu you can change the way your tasks are grouped and ordered. You can also select which Linear properties you want to see at a glance. We recommend making visible the properties that help you decide when to schedule each issues, such as due dates, priorities, state.

Tune how you want to view your Linear issues, including the grouping, ordering, and properties.

Note that when you click on an issue, a widget will open with more details, including notes, a link back to the issue in Linear, and all imported properties.

To edit any of this information, you will need to update the issue in Linear. Marking an issue complete in Morgen or scheduling it in the calendar will not change the due dates or state in Linear.

How to time block Linear issues

Once Linear is integrated in Morgen, you can time block Linear issues in any calendar connected to Morgen (including Google, Outlook, Apple, Fastmail, and other CalDAV calendars).

Simply drag an issue from the Linear tab in your task menu and drop it in your calendar to schedule dedicated time. If a time estimate was set in Linear, the issue will automatically be scheduled for that duration. You can then extend or shrink the time block as needed.

Your Linear issues are easy to distinguish in your calendar. All scheduled tasks in Morgen are empty of color (other than the outline) and have an empty check box to indicate that the task is incomplete. Linear issues will also be marked with the logo in the upper right corner. (Click the logo to be directed to the issue in Linear.)

Linear issues are easily identifiable in Morgen. The logo links back to that issue in Linear.

When you have large and complex issues that require more than one work session, simply copy the scheduled task (CMD/CTRL C), click elsewhere in your calendar, then paste it (CMD/CTRL V). You can do this as many times as you want with the same task.

Additionally, once a task is scheduled, you can tune the task further. For instance, click on the task to open the widget, then:

  • Change which calendar the issue is scheduled in. In Morgen you select a default calendar for scheduled tasks, but this can be modified for each issue by selecting a different calendar if needed.
  • Mark it busy or free. During set-up you will choose whether scheduled tasks should by default be considered busy or free. This can always be adjusted for each issue once scheduled. Updating the status is particularly relevant if you want your colleagues or those using your scheduling links to see that time as available for meetings or if you want the time protected for focused work.
  • Add additional notifications for important tasks. Note that these types of reminders will be served on desktop only.
  • Make scheduled issues public or private in the case that others have visibility into your calendars.
  • Change the duration by pulling down or pushing up the bottom of the scheduled issue.
Get a detailed view of any issue by clicking on it to open the task widget.

Completing your Linear issues

When you complete work on the issue, you can mark it complete in Morgen. Doing so removes the issue from the task manager panel, keeping your view uncluttered. Completed scheduled issues will now be marked with a check mark, giving you a quick visual of which issues have been completed.

Unlike other task integrations in Morgen, when you mark an issue complete in Morgen, the state will not update within Linear. You can do this manually, based on how your team likes to work.
